I was approached by a group of students attending Virginia Tech to design a shoe for a start-up project.  I was able to design and produce a shoe with a factory located in India. I started with sketches and then met with the factory's design department to adjust my sketches to the sole molds that they had available. Even though the final product was much different than my intended initial design, the experience taught me about the realities of production and manufacturing.
The shoe is able to tighten around the entire foot using the existing lace. Lace wrapping is something that skateboarders often do with regular laces to give their shoes a more secure fit. I wanted to incorporate this tendency into the function of the shoe.
